Sermon Illustration

As told by John Barros:

Monday there was a Mexican young lady who chose life after a conversation over the phone with Enrique from Saving Lives. We are so thankful for this, but the thing I hate the most happened: a “Christian” brought his girlfriend down to kill their baby.

He was offered all the help he could possibly need. Instead he went on to tell us that Jesus was okay with what they were doing. He has been raised in the Church all his life and could twist Scripture like you couldn’t imagine. When faced with what God thinks of this he would attack. After the preaching he came out to say that all the girls inside were upset. We offered these ladies everything they needed. This guy decided to try to lighten the mood inside and went to McDonald’s to buy every lady inside lunch and told them to come outside and eat it in front of me and my daughter, telling all the ladies that Jesus understands their situation and that this was okay. It is really awful when these kinds of people come down.

My pastor RC Sproul preached on Sunday from Luke 12:35-48. He spoke about the unfaithful servant being those in the church who have not committed their life to Christ. I warned this man that he had invented a false Jesus in his mind and was following someone who doesn’t exist; that he was in serious danger; that Jesus would cut him in half and send him to hell. He just mocked. RC had many serious things to say as he preached through Luke 12. Sunday was the most powerful message I have ever heard, bringing a healthy fear of God. To have a sermon illustration the next day in person was frightening..

The Perfect Valentine’s Gift

As told by John Barros:

Cecile Richards, Planned Parenthood president, said the perfect gift for Valentine’s Day is an abortion. They came today and most did not show love to their babies. Thankfully not too many came. The ones who did heard a last-minute plea for them to trust the Author of True Love.
There were two who didn’t go through with it. One couple from Texas arrived with a Christian bumper sticker and won the vileness of the day award. Cursing, screaming, and mocking, but something happened and they left. They wouldn’t speak to us but I believe it was because of the way they had behaved.
Then there was a young fourteen-year-old girl. Her grandfather, mother, and aunt brought her for an abortion. After speaking to her and sitting through the preaching, her family left her. She came out had some cookies with us, chose life, and told the workers inside she did not want to kill her baby. Her mother and aunt came back and tried to talk her into going back in but 17-week-pregnant Bolynne stood firm. Please pray for her. Sometimes girls go through horrendous pressure from their families.
I was so blessed to have Tracey Bolin from Saint Andrew’s come for her first time. She is a natural. She called out, had many conversations, and definitely has the gift of encouragement to her fellow workers. Bradley Spruill, Sarah Woodruff, Jessica Woodruff, and Delaney Sproul came down from Reformation Bible College, along with Warren Marquardt. Sarah gets to come quite often and is an unbelievably hard worker. Jessica is a giant heart with feet and Delaney called out to these women to consider adoption because of the great love and joy that two of her brothers have brought to her and her family.
I can’t begin to go into all the stories but request that you pray for the girls who left and all these folks that fought this battle today. God bless you all.

Cell Phone Tells A Story

As told by John Barros:

I know a picture of a cell phone looks pretty strange for a story from down here but it was so important today. Three couples chose life; two changed their minds quickly and easily. The third was a war.

Orlando and Deanna came down to have an abortion. Turns out he was going to pay for Deanna’s abortion and then dump her because he had found another girlfriend. We had difficulty speaking to them because they pretty much only spoke Spanish. I was able to get Enrique from Saving Lives on the phone. He spoke to Deanna for what seemed to be an eternity. They sat in their truck on the phone sobbing. They ended up choosing life and said they were going to Choices.

When Deanna got out of the truck she gave me my phone back and let us pray for them. Please pray that they stay strong as they have made a mess of things. As they drove off I went to use my phone to text Daria and noticed all the tear stains on the screen. A picture tells a thousand words.

The Reis family was snowed out of Tennessee so they ministered again today as did Bradley Spruill, Jacob Allen, Sarah Fowler, Abigail Hulsey, Bonnie Franke, and Jessica Woodroof.

God was glorified and Jesus was lifted up. Even Ruben, who met Jesus in the 33rd Street jail, came by. He was a 25-year heroine addict, in and out of prison, and was celebrating being clean six months. The Lord is doing an amazing work in Ruben.

Please continue to pray for the Lord to continue working on hearts on Lucerne Terrace.

God Sends Blessings

As told by John Barros:

God never fails to send blessings down here. Some of the RBC kids came down this morning and He sent a Facebook friend family down here from Nashville. They came down for vacation at Disney but wanted to come by and serve. Nothing warms an old man’s heart like this. Jeremy and Jennica Reis are awesome. They blessed us all and jumped right in.

Berlin and Yvonne came by as well and they are smiling because they got to see Renee choose life. Please pray for Renee; she is headed to Choices to get the help she needs. God is so good.

.

Slammed

As told by John Barros:

It is so slammed down here these days. Every year at this time people bring their tax returns or advances from H&R Block to get their abortions. Couple that with the coupons and they think they are getting quite the deal.

I was so thankful to have the RBC students down here today. These kids came down every day I was at the Super Bowl Outreach and ministered all day. I just found out that even R.C. Sproul Jr. was here one of the days. It is so awesome to have the Church serve down here.

Two ladies left today. One mother grabbed her daughter and boyfriend and left right at the beginning. Another young lady came out saying she was not going to do this, got in a major screaming match with her boyfriend on the phone, and left.

There were so many conversations and gospel presentations today. Please pray that the gospel would penetrate hearts.

God Shows More Mercy

As told by John Barros

It was kinda crazy down here today. We had late-term moms continuing their labor that began yesterday, the man came to pick up the dead babies, as well as a bunch of new folks. Cowardly guys and ladies happily waving their coupons.

God showed mercy and crushed the hearts of two men and women. After the preached Word a young couple came out in tears, took info for Choices and said she would go.

Then a man who brought a young lady said her father had raped her and she was pregnant. He came out in tears and asked Bradley if it was wrong under these circumstances. Bradley told him the baby shouldn’t die for the sins of his grandfather and encouraged them to consider adoption. He went in, got her, and chose life. I have never seen this happen before.

Hope, Sarah, and Lauren also came down to help a bit today. I Love these girls. Please continue to pray for them.

Overpowering

As told by John Barros

There always seems to be a smell at OWC but on late-term days it can be overpowering. Today was horrible.

Many folks here but there was one young lady who had been to Choices for a pregnancy test and ultrasound last week. She was 14 weeks pregnant. I called Daria Monroe and she got her office praying and came down to call out to Keisha. The girl who came with her for support came under heavy conviction and left her there. Bonnie Franke gave her a ride home. We thought Keisha would leave without her friend there to support her, but she didn’t.

There was one young lady who chose life today and we praise God for that. There was also a girl who came for a proof of pregnancy form and they were trying to talk her into an abortion. She went to Choices and got help.

The hardest thing was watching a dear friend like Daria having her heart broken on the sidewalk.

An Odd Week

As told by Bradley Spruill:

What an odd week at the mill it was. For some reason it rained every time I preached for the first time each day. I guess it was so odd not to have John Barros there that even nature didn’t know what to do.

One couple chose life today (not pictured). While Isaac George and I preached three times each, the couple who chose life didn’t hear any of it. Isaac approached them before they went in and was able to talk to them and show them the horrible record and I was able to give them information for two crisis pregnancy centers they could go to. They went inside for a minute but came back out saying that they were going to go to one of the CPCs. So we gave them one of John’s cards and they left.

The couple here came out when I was preaching and started arguing whether she should have it done or not (she ended up going through with it). The guy, as tough as he tried to puff himself up to be, clearly got emotionally wrecked by God’s Word in the end, as he hung his head low and stopped responding.

Praise God for delivering yet another child out of the grasp of death’s hand!.

Never Heard the Name of Jesus

John Barros and many other faithful men traveled to New York to share the gospel during the Super Bowl Outreach. Here is just one story from their time there; see more on John’s Facebook page or YouTube channel.

This man’s name is Jun. He is here from China and has never heard the name Jesus before. He heard Evan preaching on the corner of 42nd and 7th in Times Square and was amazed at why men would be speaking about a man who is God.

He has been listening to each speaker and has befriended Jesse Stiemann from Reformation Bible College who is explaining the gospel. We are hearing questions we have never heard and he is blown away that one of the brothers gave him his own Bible.

Please pray for Jun and for all of the team as they finish up today..
